Boudoir portrait sessions are all about dress up, or even un-dress-up. Loving to play dress-up is nothing new, for most of us it started when we were just little kids. I remember all three of my kids (all now adults) diving into the dress up trunk and running around the house in tu-tu’s, boas and all kinds of outfits often made up a combination of past Halloween costumes and random toy box findings and loving it. It’s no wonder that events like Comic Cons and Renaissance Festivals are so popular among adults, bringing dress-up out of childhood into adulthood.
Often, when people think of a boudoir photo shoot, they think of lingerie – which is definitely dress up, but what most people don’t know is how often cosplay, steampunk and renn-fest outfits make their way into boudoir portrait sessions here at our studio in Lake George, NY.
When I am having the pre-shoot meeting with new clients, one of the points of discussion is almost always about what outfits to bring. I always open the conversation to a discussion about what will make the shoot personal to them. What are you into? Does that have some visual possibilities for us to explore in your boudoir portraits? It’s often an a-ha moment for new clients when they expand their thought process to include dress up activities like steam punk and cosplay.
The images in this story are some examples that our clients have allowed us to share from their photo shoots that highlight their love of dress-up and how they incorporated it into their boudoir photo shoot to make the images even more personal to them. These images were captured in both our Lake George Studio and on location in nearby Saratoga Springs, NY.
What will you include in your dream photo shoot? How do you play dress up as an adult that would make for amazing boudoir themed images?
