My story started about 5 years ago, I was unhappy with myself and needed to make positive changes in my life. I was never the pretty girl or the skinny girl ever in my life I was just me – ordinary. Fast forward 2 years and I was making changes lost some weight I had been trying to lose forever and dealing with a divorce. I reconnected with an old boyfriend and for the first time in my life, I was made to feel beautiful. It is the way he looks at me is like no one had ever looked at me before. I had been saving boudoir stuff to my Pinterest for inspiration and a goal.
I came across Chris’s page on FaceBook and began to follow and read what others had to say. Everyone was such an inspiration. Last summer Chris put out a model call for Outdoor shoots and it was exactly what I was looking for so I decided to apply, to my surprise I got the email saying I was picked for a shoot. I was so excited and nervous at the same time but once I talked to Chris on the phone all of my nervousness went straight to excitement. I decided I was going to do it for my now fiance’s birthday. So I started my planning. I chose to bring his varsity jacket since we had dated in high school to tie everything in. The morning of the shoot I was so excited on my way to the studio once I got there and my hair and makeup were done I was so relaxed like I had known them all for years.
As we were walking down the trail to the waterfall I was starting to get nervous about the actual photos. We stopped and took a few pictures and the first one he took he showed me the first one. Who was that girl? She looked like me but she was so pretty, my smile was even bigger than it was at the beginning. As someone with no confidence, this was definitely a booster for me. I was finally seeing the girl that they saw in me. As we went along the trail I was back to being excited and coming out of my comfort zone. When we got back to the studio and went through all the photos it was AMAZING! It was so hard to say no to some of them. When I got my proofs I was so excited to show my girlfriends. They all loved them so much each one boosting my confidence more and more. They said I inspire them with the confidence that shows through in the photos and in my smile. When I gave him the book for his birthday he was speechless he was looking at them and looking at me the same way he always did and has. I thank Chris and Monica for the opportunity to gain this self-esteem and confidence, I cant wait to do another shoot with them. One piece of advice I would give anyone thinking of doing a shoot is DO IT!! You are amazing and beautiful and you need to let it shine.
HerStory is a blog written by our clients with images they chose to share from their session: what led them to do a photoshoot, how the session made them feel, and how they feel about it now. We have worked with hundreds of clients, and each of their stories teaches us something about ourselves. –Chris Connelly Photography
