HerStory is a series of stories based on our client’s experiences, shared with us, to share with you. What led them to do a shoot, how the session made them feel, and how they feel about it now. Kim shared her story with me before her photo session on the phone, I remember getting off the call and needing to just sit a bit. Here is HerStory in her own words:
I did my first boudoir shoot in 2015 after my very best friends in the whole world paid for a session for me a week before I was to undergo a double mastectomy. At 31 years old. When cancer reared her ugly head in my left breast. I am forever grateful they did that so I can look back at my pre-cancer body.
Fast forward to 4 years later. Pre-cancer me would have thought that four years after my surgery, cancer would be just a little blimp on the radar but I was struggling with accepting my body. I had some major life changes going on too, including a recent separation from my husband. And a 40-pound weight loss. I decided I wanted to do another shoot to reclaim my body and to celebrate it as it is today. So when Chris posted on Facebook that he had an opening for a morning session the following day, I was sold. That meant I had minimal time to get anxious about it.
When I arrived on the set, I immediately felt at home with Chris, Monica, and Nicole. They have a knack for somehow making you feel comfortable and actually like being naked, or close to it, in front of a camera. And my pictures have served as a confidence boost like none other. Six months later and I am still in awe of how strong, confident, and kick-ass I look in my photos.
Losing my natural breasts took away a big part of what made me feel sexy and feminine and going through breast cancer at 31 really messes with your psyche. Having Chris capture me in my best light did wonders to my self-esteem and for the first time in a long time, I felt truly beautiful.
HerStory is a blog written by our clients with images they chose to share from their session: what led them to do a photoshoot, how the session made them feel, and how they feel about it now. We have worked with hundreds of clients, and each of their stories teaches us something about ourselves. –Chris Connelly Photography
